Support the Library Initiative

At last Wednesday's Library Board of Trustees meeting, an item was sent on to the City Council asking them to place a measure on the November ballot for a $42 a year parcel tax. The major differences between this measure and Measure X which got over 60% of the vote in 2012 (it needed 2/3 or about 67% to pass), is that it has a sunset after 10 years and it doesn't have a yearly cost of living increase.

This is not the final measure as it is up to the City Council to place the measure on the ballot and they can either place this measure, a modified measure, or no measure on the ballot at their discretion.

Now it will be important ensure the measure gets on the ballot and to get voters to vote for the measure come September.

To that end, SOPPL (Save Our Pomona Public Library)/Advocacy is holding a fundraiser on June 1. It will be a restaurant crawl through downtown Pomona. 5 restaurants will generously provide "sampler" food and libations. All in historic buildings. This will give you an opportunity to sample some of the best of the downtown scene. All funds will go toward the ballot measure.

It will also offer an opportunity to tour the National Register Historic Pomona Fox Theater.
