let the sun shine in

Well, I'm back from my jaunt to southern Indiana and East Tennessee. Thanks to my fabulous co-authors for keeping the blog going in my absence!

Thanks also to AnonyMark for alerting me to Dave Allen's article on Cristina Carrizosa's pension and the discussion that resulted from it. I must say, D-Bomb does some stellar investigative journalism when the mood strikes him -- and that's more than I can say for most of the other newspapers I read.

Fair warning, though: A few of the comments in the discussion are pretty anti-Mexican. (I would say "racist," but Mexican isn't a race. Still, I suspect those commenters feel similarly about anyone brown.)

I'm posting the links because I don't know if everyone has seen the article, and frankly, one of our problems seems to be dissemination and discussion of information. We here at M-M-M-My Pomona make no claims to journalistic integrity (or writing quality, for that matter), but we can at least help out with the goal of opening up discussion. Open discussion leads to open government leads to healthy cities.

DA deserves a lot of praise for that article.

Wow, our city government is jacked-up. How does this kind of manipulation not make front page in major newspapers anymore. Just sad.

As for the comments on "mexicans", there was only one that I saw. So, that would actually only mean 'comment'-not plural. I wouldn't say the person is racist, but making a point about circumstances that are typically viewed regularly. I have seen where many people cram into places not meant for but a certain number of people to occupy. And that is a problem-typically, it is illegals. As an American citizen, I am disgusted by illegals and I don't care what the damn color is, it is still illegal. The U.S. is just about to become what Cuba is now. Cuba used to be a beautiful place, like America was 20 or more years ago. I work, pay taxes, vote, and advocate regularly for law abiding candidates to take office. I am very outspoken and sometimes it offends people, but maybe, just maybe, that's what we have to get back to-offending people to get our beloved places of living back to the righful owners. It is surely time to stop being so stupidly politically correct, and start being morally and ethically correct.

Either way, this political corruption in Pomona must end. As long as I have been here, which is not long at all, I see no ground troops of advocators going door to door informing the voters of corruption of these elected officials in Pomona. If people actually do that, let me know. I'll knock on doors too. Only thing is, I speak English, not Spanish-because this is America and English is in the Constitution, not Spanish. (Though I do know some Spanish words as I learn them)

Because of this blog here, I was searching on Facebook for the Save Pomona PD page. I didn't find it. So, I created a special group that is only for Pomona residents. Residents of Pomona have to request to join the group. I made it that way to make sure it was only the community of Pomona on the page in order to better organize effective events of action. If anyone here would like to join, the group is called Pomona Tea Party Residents. Tea Partiers are not one color-they are of all the colors. It's not for racism either. The tea party doesn't put up with that and is wrongfully being smeared in that manner. I put Tea Party in the group title because I would like to organize Pomona's branch of tea partiers. Thanks!

does anyone know if anyone is running against her?

Virginia Madrigal has announced that she is running. I believe that there are people who have taken out papers in all three races. Final is coming up.

The deadline to pull papers and turn in nomination forms is August 6, so there still is time. I don't see Virginia getting elected, though, because I don't see her as the type to fundraise or dial for dollars like any would be politician needs to do. One of the problems with consolidating City elections with the general election is that local issues get subsumed in the statewide races like governor and US Senate, or a Presidential election. Therefore, low information voters use the paid slate mailers and read the mailers from the public employee unions and business interests and vote off that.

I would prefer that the City consolidate with the school district elections in the UDEL on the odd years. Many other LA County cities are doing it. The general law cities hold their elections in March of the odd year and that is a bit too weird, but consolidating PUSD, Claremont USD, Mt. SAC Governing Board, and City elections is a good start. It also allows for the number of ballot positions necessary to do something like instant runoff voting or approval voting.
