Anyone interested in a beer tasting is welcome to join Pomona Heritage at dba256 (corner of 3rd & Main in downtown Pomona) on Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Beer meister Tibbi will be pouring and discussing four different brews for the information and edification of those who are interested in historic preservation/neighborhoods, but may not know a lot about beer (or may know about beer but want to know more).
Not only can you get a beer education, you can mingle with people who love old homes and historic landmarks. What could be a better way to spend a Wednesday summer evening? And you won't even have to worry about running into the crowds from the Marilyn Manson or Cake concerts at the Fox as we're squeezed right between the two.

It was good to see everyone who made it to dba256 last night. I think everyone had a good time, I know I did. Sorry for having to leave a little early.

Tibbi just outdid himself, dragging out some wonderful stuff:
* We started out with Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout, which, for all of the darkness and everything else, was surprisingly drinkable, and seemed like a crowd favorite.
* We tried the Sessions Black Lager, which apparently just became available this week. It was, again, very drinkable, and very tasty.
* After a joking question from me, Tibbi pulled out the amazing Hitachino Nest White Ale. It was wonderful to try the Japanese take on a traditional Belgian beer, with subtly different spices.
* We finished off with the Sea Dog Blueberry (Bluepaw?) ale. I'm so delighted that dba256 is willing to put really interesting brews like this on tap, rather than just having a few bottles hiding in the back of a cooler. It was tart and tasty, and I certainly wasn't the only one to have a second taste!
[Any factual mistakes in here are mine -- Tibbi did a great job of explaining everything, but I might have missed some of the explanations. I was really impressed that he was just doing this off-the-cuff, picking the four beers in response to our questions and interests -- despite the ad hoc nature of the presentation, he had really interesting things to say about all of the beers!]
