thufferin' thuccotash!

I heard the cop-choppers all in an uproar last night, but I didn't realize it was because of the H word again. I swear, the LP is the most dangerous part of Pomona -- y'all Southies just better watch out when you see us comin'! (I'm looking at you, Anduhrew.)

I think my street credit score has been dropping lately. Looks like LP is gaining some though. interestingly, there's this length of neighborhood on San Antonio going south of Lexington, the rest of Pomona in that direction and on that street, actually seems really put together. houses are clean, kids are playing outside, there was one block in particular, south of philadelphia, where one afternoon, kids were playing in all the yards, adults were mowing lawns and dogs were playing fetch. it felt like I time warped into the fifties!

i'm a southie too- you LP kids better bring it- because I know I bring the ruckus, and I know andrew brings the ruckus...that's alot of ruckus!!!! i'd really be careful if I was you (LP)- we wouldn't want to get anyone's dockers dirty!!! (over here we wear dickies)

*let the super street cred trash talk fest begin*

Wow, I just put two and two together and realized this shooting was just a block or so from the July shooting. Right? Oh my. Meg, will you let us all know if there's a LP Neighborhood Watch meeting we can attend?

If you REALLY want to get shook up read the DB TOPIX Forum attached to the DB (six sentence) article about the shooting.

Lincoln Park needs to be thinking about do we want to be wide open and welcoming hordes and hordes of trick or treating strangers on Halloween night...

Things are'a changing in Lincoln Park... which is really a lovely but shrinking little island in a lawless, dangerous sea.

The shooting victim in July was a resident. This latest shooting victim... who knows, but I don't see the flood of goblins on the 10/31 as a risk to anyone's safety (except a diabetics). If you don't want to participate than turn off your lights and don't answer the door like Council member Lantz. I meet more of my neighbors on this night than in the other 364 days of the year.

LP NW?? I never hear anything about the meetings.

In the last two years, I haven't seen a geographical pattern to the homicides that correlates to the common views of unsafe Pomona neighborhoods. Arguably, the July shooting would have been a Claremont homicide, if a landlord in that city had rented to the family. I don't want to live in a city that gates off neighborhoods, or doesn't recognize the value of income diversity.

I love living in Pomona!!

I'm with Ed on this. there are tons of pockets in Pomona like the area on san antonio south of Lexington that are great communities. Every once in a while a bad apple gets in. Gandhi's birthday is coming up in a few weeks. so "When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall -- think of it, ALWAYS." - M. Gandhi.

Last week's shooting victim was at a half way house on Kingsley. And July's shooting victim was on McKinley. They are not a block or so away from each other. More like five. That is close enough. That is two shootings/homicides in two months in Lincoln Park.

After that one meeting about two years ago, I have heard NOTHING about neighborhood watch. Our alleged block captain has our email address and phone number but never calls, e-mails, or visits. I would happily take over those duties but I don't want to get into a situation where I end up being the bad guy because I take over from someone else. There is a lot of angst and concern around the community now and it would behoove the Neighborhood Watch people to find a church or school and hold a community meeting. Just a thought.

Yes, it seems that some "block captains" are more committed than others. I know that I usually hear about NW issues from either Pride In Garfield Park's wonderful POMONA NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH blog (http://pomonawatch.blogspot.com/) or from friends in other blocks in LP.

Being a Block Captain is a volunteer job and like all volunteers some take the job seriously and are very committed, some take on the job and get burned out, and some just don't follow up. Those that don't follow up are usually motivated by something and then once that event is over, they lose interest.

For what it is worth, anyone can call a NW meeting, you don't even have to call it a NW meeting. If any of the Lincoln Park residents would like to use the Pomona Watch blog to announce a meeting, drop me a line and I'll add you to the growing list of authors.

Our Garfield Park NW group was recently assigned a new Community Service Officer -- I'm guessing LP was, too. Brian Haggerty of the Pomona PD runs the Crime Prevention Unit -- he's very approachable and could easily put any one in touch with their CSO, who can then help arrange to have a police presence at the meeting. Council member Lantz can put in a call, too. Haggerty's number is (909) 802-7752
