drink less coffee

I still have a huge backlog of well-considered posts I mean to sit down and scratch out for y'all to make fun of, but in the meantime, a minor squib for your delectation:

No doubt you saw the announcement at the beginning of the month that $tarbuck$ was closing down 600 stores. Well, they've released the initial list, and while Pomona escapes the ax, poor old Montclair doesn't -- the store at Ramona and Mission is one of the eight stores in California to be shuttered.

I've never been to that one (but then again I go to $tarbuck$ only when some well-meaning soul gives me a gift card from there). Are any of y'all gonna miss it?

I do not know of a place to get a good espresso in pomona. It would be great if Pomona baking Co. can make a good coffee.

My daughter wants to inform all those interested in partaking, that she can in fact, make a good espresso! Stop by the Starbucks on Garey and Mission when she's working. I don't know when that exactly is, so I guess you'll have to keep trying. Don't wait to long though, since she'll soon head back up to Seattle for school.

How are we supposed to recognize the Edlette? Is she the one employee who can, in fact, make a good espresso?

To answer the first question: she has stock options so keep coming back until you get the good espresso.

And to the second question: She's taking the fifth, although she confidently states that there may be others in Seattle that can make a good espresso.

Too bad Cup of Joe's isn't open anymore. I used to go there in the morning before work for a delicious cup of "Cafe Europa." This was before the Mission Promenade and downtown Starbucks. But then Pomona happened.
Even though Cup of Joe's was the same property, business, and enterprise as Joe's BBQ, the city demanded they pull a separate business license. The cost was prohibitive and Cup of Joe's no longer serves coffee. This from a city that "tries" to get people down town.

I didn't realize that Cup of Joe's was closed down.

I really, really want to like Bloveldt Coffee. They're lovely people, and the location is great. But the coffee is just not to my taste at all, at all.

A neighbor points out: "South Africa? Not so tropical, not so famous for coffee. Wine, yes; coffee, no." I was thinking that the RSA's a big country and maybe there was a huge coffee industry, but looking at maps of coffee cultivation, South Africa isn't even listed.

It's a darn shame.

Boveldt closed down last month. I didn't like their coffee or their decor, but I tried to go there since they are such lovely people and proceeds benefitted an African charity. It's too bad. Does anyone remember The Haven? That was one of the best coffee houses ever (before it became Jordan's, then Taco Nazo, Lela's, etc.

Not exactly Pomona, but I noticed a sign for a new Starbucks going in on Vineyard just north of the Valero on Holt by the Ontario Convention Center.

And there was a Starbucks that was approved for North Garey where the old Long John Silvers used to be.

Whenever I go to Starbucks I am always treated with a smile. Worth the extra cents for a regular cup of coffee. (I work in Customer Service so I know how hard it is to smile).
