We have a tree that needs to come down (yes, I know all about getting permits, don't worry -- and I'll probably post about the agonies thereof at a later date).
Does anyone have an arborist/tree service to recommend? We've talked to Alpine, and they seem quite good, but we'd like to talk to at least one more before we pull the trigger. I'll just attack the phone book if necessary, but I'd prefer to have recommendations from friends, neighbors, and countrymen.
[Sylvanus, if you'd forgotten all that mythology you learned in grade school, is the Roman god of trees.]

I have heard good things about Tom Day Tree Service (and I believe they are based here in Pomona).
Thanks to Vertumnus, Sylvanus is giving Pomona a bad case of the uglies.
Uh-oh! You have to get a permit to have tree cut down? AND by a professional arborist? lol. Hopefully, whatever you do, don't go with the people that leave business cards in your mail or on your porch (If that applies in your area). We payed $1300 to get one tree cut down and one trimmed really good, is that too much? lol.
Garrett wonders:

In a historical district like LP, you betcha. $1300 sounds like the way-high side to me, based on the two estimates we've gotten so far, but the specifics of your situation may well have merited it. In any case, I hope permits weren't necessary! (You don't need them for fruit trees, for example.)
Tad, thanks for the rec. I called Tom, he was over here an hour later -- wham, bam, thank you ma'am. Seemed like a no-nonsense, knowledgeable guy (although we liked Alpine too).
Bill Sos Tree Service out of Glendora
